There are a few ways to solve the problem. I will use 2 ways. You can use equivalent fractions.
Way 1:
You find the LCM of 10 and 15.
10: 10,20,30,40,50
15: 15,30,45,60,75
LCM of 10 and 15: 30
30/10=3
6*3=18
6/10=18/30
30/15=2
9*2=18
9/15=18\30
18/30=18/30
Since 6/10=9/15, Ned and Fred walked the same miles to school.
Way 2:
You could simplify 6/10 into 3/5 and simplify 9/15 into 3/5 by using GCF and since 3/5=3/5, 6/10=9/15. Since 6/10=9/15, Ned and Fred walked the same miles to school.

6/10 of a mile would be 3168 feet. 9/15 of a mile would be 3168 feet as well. So therefore, they walked the same distance
