|4x-3|-5=4
-------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Add 5 to both sides
-------------------------------------------------
|4x-3|-5+5=4+5
|4x-3|=9
-------------------------------------------------
Step 2: Solve absolute value
-------------------------------------------------
|4x-3|=9
-------------------------------------------------
we know either
4x-3=9 or 4x-3=-9
-------------------------------------------------
possibility 1:
4x-3=9
4x-3+3=9 (Add 3 to both sides)
4x=12
4x/4 = 12/4 ( divide both sides by 4)
X=3
--------------------------------------------------------
possibility 2:
4x-3=-9
4x-3+3=-9+3 (Add 3 to both sides)
4x=-6
4x/4 = -6/4 (divide both sides by 4)
X=-3/2
-----------------------------------------------------------
ANSWERS: x=3 or X=-3/2
