-5x-2y=2
6x-2y=24

Notice that -2y appears in both equations. Multiply the first equation by -1, obtaining

5x + 2y = -2 and then adding the second equation to this result:
6x -2t = 24
-----------------
11x = 22, so x = 2. Now subst. 2 for x in either of the original equations to find the value of y.

6(2) - 2y = 2 becomes 2y = 12-2, or 2y = 10, or y = 5.

Solution is (2,5). You MUST check this, however.

x = 22
Make either x or y opposites and then solve.

Hope this helps.
