Why was Mendeleev's first Periodic Table not accepted my the scientist community when it was published in the late 1800s?

they found new elements

He thought the gaps or "periods" in his horizontal rows had not been discovered yet .he never saw this as a problem until he was able to work them out and he ended up being right.
