This is an equation because it equals 5.
Expressions have no sign. For ex. 12/ (x+2). That would be simplified.
You could solve this equation too.

This is an EQUATION, because it has a left side, a right side, and an = sign separating the two.
An EXPRESSION does not has "sides" and no = sign.
