Use the fact that 1 km is approx. 0.625 mile.
Mult. 5 km by the conversion factor [0.625 mile / 1 km]:
5 km 0.625 mile
-------- * ---------------- = 0.3 mile (to the nearest tenth mile)
1 1 km
