Can calculating area under curve expand to calculate volume of sphere

This is an application of integral calculus. The area under a curve could be expanded to determine the volume of a sphere if you revolve this area about a certain axis or a certain line. It should be given that the area is in the shape of either a half-circle or a quarter circle, so that it should form a sphere when revolved.
