Answer:

The value of
y = 2(3)/(8)

Explanation:

Given an equation :
(3)/(y-2)=8

Cross multiplying states that multiplying the numerator of each fraction by the other's denominator.

(a)/(b)= (c)/(d) or

a\cdot d = b \cdot c

Now, we use cross multiply for the given equation:

we can write it as :
(3)/(y-2)=(8)/(1)

then,
3\cdot 1 = (y-2) \cdot 8

Using distributive property on right hand side :
a(b-c)= a\cdot b- a\cdot c

we have,

3=8y-16

Adding 16 both the sides we get,

3+16=8y-16+16

Simplify:

8y = 19

Divide by 8 both sides, we get

y=(19)/(8) or
y = 2(3)/(8)

therefore, the value of y is,
y = 2(3)/(8)
