Formula for slope:
(y_2 - y_1)/(x_2 - x_1)

1) First, you would need to plug the coordinates into the formula.

(-3 - 1)/(8 + 8)

Now, all you would have to do is solve and simplify.

(-3 - 1)/(8 + 8) =
(-4)/(0) = undefined

The slope is vertical. So it would be undefined.

2) First, you would need to plug the coordinates into the formula.

(-8 + 8)/(8 + 5)

Now, all you would have to do is solve and simplify.

(-8 + 8)/(8 + 5) =
(0)/(13) = 0

This slope is horizontal, so the slope would be 0.

I hope this helps!

The slope formula is:

m = ( y_(2) - y_(1) )/( x_(2) - x_(1) )

So for the first problem:

We can just put in the numbers. Just make sure to put them in, in the same order!
x_(2) and
y_(2) must be from the same ordered pair.

So this would then equal:

m= (1 - (-3))/(-8 - (-8))

Or m = 4 / 0

So in this case the slope would be undefined, because anything divided by 0 cannot be defined.

m= (-8 - (-8))/(-5 - 8)

Or m = 0/-13

Which would equal 0.
