A student is selling candy bars for a school fundraiser. In 2 hours he sold 116 candy bars, and in 3 hours he sold 198 candy bars. How many candy bars would he sell in 5 hours?

a. Let time be the x value. What two ordered pairs does this problem give you?

they give you 116 candy bars in 2 hours and 198 candy bars in 3 hours

they say time is x so the ordered pairs would be (2,116) and (3,198)

using the ordered pairs you can find the slope

y2-y1 / x2-x1 =

198 - 116 / 3-2 = 82/1

m=82

y intercept = 82*2 +b =116 = 164 +b =116 b = 116 - 164 = -48

y = 82x-48

when x = 5

y = 82(5) -48 = 362 candy bars sold in 5 hours
