Hagan suggests that a relationship between the two explains the differences in the amount of criminal behavior that takes place in regards to the two sexes. The level of egalitarianism in the household and the relative prestige of (and types of) jobs that the parents hold are indicative of how much control is placed upon the children, and this can affect the ability for them to engage in risky or antisocial behaviors.
