Multiply everything in the parenthesis by -4.

-12 + 8x + 2x = 2x - 8

Combine like terms.

-12 + 10x = 2x - 8

Subtract 10x from both sides.

-12 = -8x - 8

Add 8 to both sides.

-4 = -8x

Divide both sides by -8.

x = 0.5

Hope this helps!
