Find the area of the entire box and the find the area of the inner box and then subtract so 7x8 is 56 and 5x4 is 20 so 56-20 is 36 so the area of the shaded region is 36cm

area of big rectangle =8x7=56cm²
area of small rectangle =5x4=20cm²
hence area of shaded region=56-20=36cm²
