A plateau is an area of high level ground
It forms by magma pushing the earth’s crust up to form a large piece of flat rock. The magma doesn’t penetrate the crust but only lifts it up.

Plateaus are formed inside the earth from hot magma. Later on they push through the Earth's surface and are tall flat topped land forms.
