One method would be to get the denominator into a more common form for dealing with decimal values. Notice the root dec- , the Latin root for "10" in the word decimal. This describes the fact that our common number system, the decimal system, is based on powers of 10. To prepare 7/2 for conversion to decimal, we should first make sure its denominator is some power of 10. To make the conversion, let's multiply it by 1 in the form of 5/5:

(7)/(2) \cdot (5)/(5) = (35)/(10)

Or, as a mixed number:

3 (5)/(10)

If you're familiar with how to read decimal values, "3 and 5 tenths" can be written in decimal form as 3.5.

We can split it into two numbers : 6 and 1

half of 6 is 3 as you need 2 lots of 3 to make six
half of 1 is 0.5 as you need 2 lots of 0.5 to make 1

therefore 3 + 0.5 is 3.5.

you need 2 lots of 3.5 to make 7
