The balance chemical equation for the reaction that involved in bromine water test to check the presence of carbon-carbon double bond is;
C₁₀H₁₂O₂ + Br₂ +H₂O C₁₀H₁₃OBr + HBr
Some C
₁₀H₁₂OBr₂ also form as a product.
When we use bromine water test to detect the double bond in alkenes, an alkene will change the color of bromine from brown to colorless.
