Let x = small number
Let y = large number
Because they are consecutive even numbers,they must have a difference of 2:
y-x=2
y=2+x

Eqn 1: x+(2+x)=14

Eqn 2: x(2+x)=48

2x+2=14
2x=12
x=6

This means y must be 8

so your two numbers are 6 and 8
