So when they buried the body with the possessions. It wouldnt smell bad as it decayed. Now days in open casket buriel services the embalm the body to prevent decay and smelly ness

The Egyptians believed in an afterlife in a different world, so they had much respect for the bodies and treated them carefully like you would a living human being.
