Both contain references to Christianity. Old English Saxons passed on their stories and verse through oral custom. While initially Pagan, the Anglo-Saxons started to acknowledge and rehearse Christianity and this change was reflected in the primarily composed writings.
Concerning the Christian states of mind found in the requiems/regrets, both represent the issues one countenance when God is disregarded. The two speakers tell perusers of lives that have passed on- - passing of companions, family, and lords.
