After World War II, president Truman was upset at the awful treatment of African American veterans who risked their lives during the aforementioned wars. This is why Truman passed Executive Order 9981, desegregating the US military. He felt that African American men were just as capable and brave as white soldiers during the war and that they deserved to be treated like everyone else.
