It signals the degree of health hazard. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is good for alerting personnel of the degree of hazard in a particular chemical. They use diamond shapes to provide a quick visual representation of the flammability, health hazard, and other special hazards that a chemical may pose in case or during a fire. The blue color alerts people to health hazards and is located on the left of the diamond.
