you add using the common denominator, 3 3/4 and 3 1/3 then you should get 7 1/12, to find the total miles. she ran 7 and 1/12th miles, so she ran a 12th mile over her goal.

She beat her goal by 1/12 of a mile.
3+3=6
1/3 multiply both numbers by 12. that gives you 4/12
3/4 multiply both numbers by 12. that gives you 9/12
add the numerators together. that gives you 13/12
12/12=1, so 13/12= 1 1/12
