we are given

total number of students =23

the additional number of cookies =x

you have baked 12 cookies

so, total number of cookies =x+12

the additional number x of cookies you need to bake in order to have 2 cookies for each student

so, we can find total number of cookies

total number of cookies = ( total number of students)*(cookies each student)

so, we can plug values

total number of cookies = ( 23)*(2)

total number of cookies = 23*2

so, we can set them equal

x+12=23*2

we can divide both sides by 23

(x+12)/(23) =2

so, the equation is :

(x+12)/(23) =2

now, we can solve for x

Subtract both sides by 12

x+12-12=46-12

x=34

so,

the additional number of cookies is 34..........Answer
