You can simplify 9v and -12v because they are like terms. To combine like terms, add up the coefficients and keep the common variable(s) and exponent.
9v - 12v = (9 - 12)v = -3v
So, -3v is the answer.

9v - 12v
Simply pretend as if there was no "v."
What is 9-12?
9 - 12 = -3
So, 9v - 12v = -3v
~Hope I helped!~

Given three batteries (5V, 9V, 12V) and five resistors (10, 20, 30, 40, 50Ω) to choose from, what can you choose to form a circuit diagram with a current of 0.175A? You do not need to use all of the components.
