2(8 + k) =22
8 + k = 22/2 [Division Property]
8 + k = 11
k = 11 - 8 [Subtraction Property]
k = 3

Original: 2(8+k)=22


First: Distributive Property. 2(8+k) would become 16+2k.

After step 1: 16+2k=22

Second: Subtraction Property. Subtract 16 from both sides.
16-16+2k=22-16

After step 2: 2k=6

Third: Division Property. Divide both sides by 2.

After step 3: k=3
