Do you think that the Cold War is a appropriate name for the time period

Yes, it is a simplifying a statement into a short phrase. The Nuclear tension and a possibly impending war between Russia and The United States caused the two countries to be very distant and cold towards each other. We were spying on each other, having secret operations with our intelligence agencies, and plenty of other suspicious things.

The Cold War is an appropriate name for the time period, because there were two sides ( the US and democratic allies and the USSR and their communist allies). Both sides did not fight each other head on (hot war), but instead financed and helped other countries (cold wars). They would both choose the opposite sides and fight it out pretty much

hope this helps
