Scientific Theory. An hypothesis, after being tested rigorously and held to strict scientific standards (of testing, re-testing, and efforts to fail it) become a scientific theory. A scientific theory is generally thought to hold true; however, theories may still be modified upon the discovery of new information that opposes or strengthens it.
