find equation of a line parallel to the line that passes through the points (-1, 2) and (5, -4)

Equation of a line is y=mx+b

where m is the slope and b is the y intercept


m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) = (-4-2)/(5+1) = -1

m= -1 , parallel line has same slope

to find out b we plug in (-1,2) in y=mx+b

2= -1(-1) +b

2=1+b

Subtract 1 from both sides

b= 1

So equation of line is y=-1x+1

y=-x+1
