What is -1/3 minus 5/8

-23/24 would be the right answer I think

-8/24 - 15/24
-23/24

The first step is to find the least common denominator. The LCD of 3 and 8 is 24. Now, mulitply -1/3 by 8/8 and -5/8 by 3/3. This will give you fractions with equal denominators which you need to find before subtracting. Finally, you simplify the equation. Since this cannot be simplified, -23/24 is the answer
