In plate tectonics, a divergent boundary or divergent plate boundary is a linear characteristic that exists between two tectonic plates that are moving away from each other. This occurs when two tectonic plates are sliding past each other which results in shear stress. Since shear stress occurs, this in turns lead to earthquakes.

Therefore the answer to this is “True”.
