Given y inversely proportional to x and x = 3 for y = 4, what is x if y = 12?

y= 12
12/4=3, then use that 3 to multiply by the given x value which is also 3

3 x 3 =9
answer is x=9

Answer:

x = 1

Explanation:

Given that;

y inversely proportional to x. This means that as y increases, x decreases and vice versa. Then;

y = k/x

where k is the constant of proportionality

if x = 3 for y = 4 then

4 = k/3, k = 12

y = 12/x. If y = 12 then

12 = 12/x

12x = 12, x = 1
