let the number be x
(1/6)x - 2 = -2/3

multiply each term by 6:-

x -12 = -4
x = 12 - 4
x = 8

the required number is 8.

Answer: The number would be 8.

Explanation:

Since we have given that

The sum of one-sixth of a number and negative two is equal to negative two-thirds.

Let the number be 'x'.

So,it will be expressed as

(1)/(6)x-2=-(2)/(3)

Now, we'll go for finding the value of 'x'.

(x)/(6)=-(2)/(3)+2\\\\(x)/(6)=(-2+6)/(3)=(4)/(3)\\\\x=(4* 6)/(3)\\\\x=(24)/(3)\\\\x=8

Hence, the number would be 8.
