It states that an atom will share, lose, or gain electrons to get a complete outer shell of 8 Valence electrons
Atom Z already has 8, so there is no need for it to loose or gain any
C and D are not an option
Since atom X already has 6 and is closer to 8, atom y will donate it's electrons.
