The graph of the functio 2x^2 - 2 is a parabole.

The graph of the function - 0.5x + 4 is a straight line.

The solutions of 2x^2 - 2 = -0.5x + 4 are the points where the graphs intercept each other.

That happens at two points. They are:

(1.6, 3.2) and (-1.9, 4.9)

So, you can now choose the value of your list of choices that is close to one of those points.
