Nixon was accused of covering up the break-in at the Watergate Hotel in 1972, in which robbers went through the files of the Democratic Party Headquarters and planted listening devices. with this being said this lead to this impeachment.

Nixon was accused of covering-up a burglary in the Watergate building. He had also been accused of recording secret meetings, and he refused to give the recordings to the authorities by using the excuse of "executive privilege."
