What is the difference between parentheses and brackets in math?

if they appear in one equation at the same time, you work on the numbers inside the parenthesis first then work on the numbers inside a bracket

Parentheses are the symbols that curve forwards and backwards. When numbers and operations are inside the parentheses, it forms a group and it tells you what to do first in a math problem.

Brackets work exactly the same way as parentheses do. Brackets have a shape that looks more boxy but they mean exactly the same thing. Usually, you will see parentheses more frequently than brackets, but brackets are used a lot too.
