The length of a rectangle is 5 meters less than 3 times the width. The perimeter is 46 meters. Find the width.

Given
L=3W-5 m
Perimeter=46 m
=>
2(W+L)=2W+2(3W-5)=8W-10=46
W=(46+10)/8=7m
L=3W-5=21-5=16m
Check:
perimeter = (7+16)*2=46m [exactly!]
