x^2 + 10x + 8 = 0
1. move 8 to the right by subtracting 8 from both sides
x^2 + 10x = -8
2. b/2 10/2 = 5
3. 5^2 = 25
4. add 25 to both sides
x^2 + 10x + 25 = -8 + 25
5. (x + 5)^2 = 17
6. x + 5 = + - √17
7. x = -5 + - √17
