2KClO₃ → 2KCl + 3O₂
This type of reaction is known as a DECOMPOSITION reaction since a single compound (KClO₃) is broken down into two new compounds (KCl & O₂) without having reacted with another compound. Instead, such a reaction usually involves the original compound being overcome by energy in the form of heat, electricity or even light.
