The heat added or lost by the system during the reaction is called enthalpy.

The process is when a chemical reaction occurs in which the system produces heat .The system has a lower enthalpy at the end of the reaction
The process is endothermic when a chemical reaction occurs in which the system absorbs heat. The system has higher enthalpy at the end of the reaction.
So, when the products of a reaction have a higher enthalpy than the reactants the reaction is exothermic and the change in enthaply is positive.
