What purpose might a poet have for using a storyline most readers might have heard before?

Perhaps the poet uses a similar storyline with the purpose of conveying a different theme than the reader may have heard before.

D. To help the reader make a connection to a widely held theme Is the answer this is because if the reader can recognize the theme they can comprehend the story or poem better.
