Let x be the side length of the hypotenuse.

By Pythagoras' Theorem,
x² = 8² + 3²
x² = 64 + 9
x² = 73

x = √73 or -√73
Since x is a length, we are considering |x|.
Thus, our solution is:
x = √73

3² + 8² = (AB)², so

AB = √(64+9) = √73 ≈ 8.544
