An example of two molecules that contain carbon is compound methane ( 1 carbon bounded to four hydrogen. ) and Ethane ( two carbon atoms and four hydrogen ). Carbon is able to form so many molecules/compounds because each carbon atom can form four chemical bonds to other atoms and, because of its size, it fits in nicely as part of large molecules.
