We may first write the reaction equation:
2NaCl + CuSO₄ → Na₂SO₄ + CuCl₂
This is a single replacement reaction, where sodium displaces copper as to form sodium sulfate as sodium is a more reactive element. The copper then reacts with the chloride ions that have been left behind to form copper chloride.
