When sulfur dioxide and nitro oxide emissions react with water vapor in the atmosphere, it form acids that return to the surface, either as a dry or wet deposition, or more commonly known as acid rain.

Acid deposition is a general name for a number of phenomena, namely acid rain, acid fog and acid mist. This means it can imply both wet and dry (gaseous) precipitation.
