C because once you do the math you are to divide 4 and 4 and that gives 1 but in this case it would be -1

8 - 3x - x = 12
Subtract 8 from both sides.
-3x - x = 12 - 8
Simplify.
-4x = 4
Divide both sides by -4.
x = -1
Therefore, your answer is C) -1
