A student solved this problem and said the answer was 8 1/4 feet. Jenny had three pieces of rope. One piece was 3 1/2 ft long, another was 2 1/4 ft long, and the third piece was 2 1/2 ft long. How much rope did Jenny have in all? Is the student's answer reasonable?

The actual answer is A because if you add 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 it's 6 and 6+2 1/4 is 8 1/4
