To have a proportion you must have a scaling factor. A scaling factor is a number which is multiplied by something. With my answer the scaling factor I used it 2. The ratio of any two corresponding lengths in two similar geometric figures is also called a scale factor.

(4)/(12) has a common factor of 4 in the numerator and denominator we can reduce, which becomes:

(1)/(3), so our proportion is

(4)/(12) =
(1)/(3)
