8 would be your answer because the 6 round the 9 to a 10 but since a ten will not fit you have to round the ones place up to 8.

7.96 is closer to what, 7.9 or 8.0
7.96 is close to 8.0
So, 7.96 rounded to the nearest tenth is 8
