Larger areas of the West were open to settlement by settlers who practiced dry farming in areas that got less than 12 inches of rainfall in a year. How were farmers able to grow crops in regions without a steady supply of water?

Dry farming has certain techniques that had to be followed so harvest can be successful. This is applicable to places that experience wet and dry seasons. A farmer should have the skills to monitor the moisture of the soil frequently. It uses crop rotation to prevent soil from losing its nutrients. Farm management is a key to making sure of the success in farming.  In addition to this, a farmer puts a plant in a wider space to make sure of that it would receive enough soil.moisture to grow.
